My Morning Routine as a Professional Blogger Working from Home
Working from home as a professional blogger can be incredibly rewarding, but it comes with its unique set of challenges—especially when it comes to staying focused and productive. Today, I’m sharing my everyday morning routine, the struggles I faced, and how I turned my mornings from chaotic to productive.
Whether you’re a new entrepreneur or a seasoned blogger, you might relate to the distractions of working from home. Here’s how I overcame mine and created a morning routine that sets me up for success.
The Struggle: Distractions Everywhere
Here’s what my mornings used to look like:
- Tidying up from the night before instead of starting work on time.
- Hitting the snooze button multiple times, exhausted from a late-night Netflix binge.
- Spending 30 minutes making an “Instagram-worthy” breakfast.
- Scrolling through emails and social media before even getting out of bed.
- Skipping workouts or starting my day too late when I managed to squeeze one in.
By the time I got to my desk, it was often 10 a.m., and I felt frazzled, not focused.
The Solution: Crafting My Ideal Morning Routine
To turn things around, I asked myself: What would my ideal morning look like? I wanted a routine that energized me and set me up for a productive day. Here’s the routine I designed:
- 6:00 a.m. – Drink water or juice with an apple cider vinegar shot.
- 6:10 a.m. – Read for 30 minutes.
- 6:20 a.m. – Journal.
- 6:30 a.m. – Workout.
- 7:00 a.m. – Meditate.
- 7:10 a.m. – Shower and do makeup.
- 7:40 a.m. – Take supplements.
- 7:50 a.m. – Enjoy coffee and post an Instagram story.
- 8:00 a.m. – Start work.
How I Made It Happen
Implementing this routine didn’t happen overnight. I had to identify my biggest distractions and tackle them one by one.
- Messy Apartment
Instead of tidying in the morning, I now spend 10 minutes before bed cleaning up. Waking up to a tidy home saves me time and mental energy. - Snoozing Too Much
I set a consistent bedtime routine, heading to bed by 10 p.m. and turning off the lights by 11 p.m. - Time-Consuming Breakfasts
I meal-prep breakfast on Sundays—hello, grab-and-go overnight oats! - Phone Distractions
I remind myself that work starts at 8 a.m., so there’s no need to check emails or social media before then. - Skipping Workouts
I lay out my workout clothes the night before, making it easier to get moving in the morning. - Walking Phoebe
My fiancé takes care of Phoebe’s morning walk, giving me the time I need to focus on my routine.
The Results
After months of trial and error, I’ve stuck to my routine consistently for eight months. My mornings feel calm, my apartment is clean, and I start work on time. By prioritizing exercise, reading, and self-care early in the day, I’ve boosted my productivity and my well-being.
Your Turn
Everyone’s ideal morning routine will look different. Maybe you have kids, attend night school, or juggle other responsibilities. The key is to identify your distractions and replace them with habits that support your goals.
